The Daibutsu is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha, the Buddha of Infinite Light and Infinite Life, and is one of the most famous and iconic symbols of Japanese Buddhism. Located in the Hase-dera temple complex in Kamakura, this magnificent statue stands approximately 11.3 meters tall and was cast in 1252, but the current bronze statue is a replacement of the original, which was damaged during a storm in 1498. The statue is housed in a large wooden structure called the Daihido Hall, which was rebuilt in 1960 after being destroyed during World War II. The Daibutsu's serene expression and intricate details, such as the lotus flower pattern on its base and the intricate folds of its robe, are beautifully captured in this photograph.
