The Garden Model Village - Woodcarvers Shop - Woolmer Green
Harry Macdonalds Model Village in the Garden of his Woodcarvers Shop - Woolmer Green, Knebworth, Hertfordshire. Harry MacDonald (a Yorkshireman) came south and brought this cottage for 1, 000 in 1937. He built his model village over the years & also carved serious subjects. Macdonald died on 23rd April 1971 and the cottage was (very sadly in my opinion) demolished in 1981. Date: circa 1930s

EDITORS COMMENTS
"This enchanting photograph captures the Woodcarvers Shop and Model Village of Harry MacDonald in the quaint village of Woolmer Green, Knebworth, Hertfordshire. Harry MacDonald, a Yorkshireman, moved south in 1937 and purchased this thatched cottage for just 1,000 pounds. Over the following decades, he transformed the garden into a unique and eccentric model village. The village was a labor of love for MacDonald, who not only built the miniature houses but also carved the intricate decorations and figures himself. The walls of the houses were adorned with intricate carvings, and the figures and animals were meticulously crafted from wood. Some of MacDonald's most notable works include a carved Noah's Ark and various other serious subjects. Sadly, MacDonald passed away on 23rd April 1971, and the cottage was demolished in 1981. This photograph, taken in the 1930s, offers a rare glimpse into a bygone era and the extraordinary creativity of one man's imagination. The Model Village at Woolmer Green was a testament to MacDonald's skill in carpentry and carving, and it remains a beloved memory for those who were fortunate enough to have visited it during its existence." This photograph is a reminder of the unique and unusual creations that can be found in the most unexpected places. MacDonald's Woodcarvers Shop and Model Village at Woolmer Green in Hertfordshire is a testament to the power of imagination and the beauty of handcrafted art. The intricate details of the miniature houses and the meticulously carved figures and animals continue to captivate viewers and inspire artists to this day.
