He participated in numerous campaigns during the Thirty Years' War, a devastating conflict that ravaged Europe from 1618 to 1648. Castelnau's most notable achievements include his victories at the Battle of Rocroi in 1643 and the Battle of Lens in 1648, both of which significantly weakened the Spanish forces in the region. The Marquis de Castelnau's military successes earned him the favor of King Louis XIV, who granted him the title of marechal de France in 1652. This prestigious rank placed him among the highest-ranking military officers in the French army. Castelnau continued to serve his country faithfully until his untimely death in 1658, at the age of 38.
