Frederic IV, Comte de Meurs et de Saarwerden, Seigneur de Baer et de Lathum (1400-1448): A Regal Portrait from the Ancient Equestrian Armorials of the Order of the Golden Fleece and Europe in the 15th Century This stunning chromolithograph depicts Frederic IV, Comte de Meurs et de Saarwerden, Seigneur de Baer et de Lathum, a prominent figure of the 15th century European nobility. The image is taken from Loredan Larchey's "Ancien Armorial Equestre de la Toison d'Or et de l'Europe au 15e Siecle" (Ancient Equestrian Armorials of the Order of the Golden Fleece and Europe in the 15th Century), published in Paris in 1890. The illustration is derived from an earlier manuscript, numbered 4790, housed in the Bibliotheque de l'Arsenal. Frederic IV is shown in full regalia, proudly displaying the insignia of his noble titles. He wears a richly decorated surcoat emblazoned with the arms of Meurs and Saarwerden, as well as those of Baer and Lathum.
