Eight enemy Messerschmitt ME 109 planes were destroyed

Eight enemy Messerschmitt ME 109 planes were destroyed and two damaged by Allied fighters in two sorties over Tripolitania. In the first sortie an R.A.F. squadron found the enemy strafing our forward troops. They attacked immediately and shot down five fighters and damaged another. The second sortie destroyed three of the enemy and damaged one. All our aircraft returned safely.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment during World War Two, showcasing the bravery and skill of Allied fighters in Tripolitania. In this intense aerial battle, eight enemy Messerschmitt ME 109 planes were completely destroyed, while two others sustained damage. The heroic efforts of an R. A. F squadron prevented further harm to our forward troops as they swiftly retaliated against the enemy's strafing attack. The image showcases six remarkable individuals who played instrumental roles in this victorious mission. From left to right, we see Flight Lieutenant J. E. Edwards hailing from Saskatchewan, Canada; Flying Officer G. Fallows representing Kaponga, New Zealand; Pilot Officer D. England proudly standing for Yeovil, Somerset; Pilot Officer L. J. Sheppard from Newport, Montmouth; Flying Officer J. H. R Thornhill originating from London; and Sergeant R. S Brown bravely serving Glasgow. Their united efforts resulted in five enemy fighters being shot down during the first sortie and another one damaged. During the second sortie, three more enemy planes were destroyed while one suffered damage before all our aircraft safely returned home. This photograph serves as a testament to the valor exhibited by these pilots and crew members who risked their lives for freedom and victory during this tumultuous period of history. It stands as a reminder of their unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nations against tyranny and oppression.
