Alexander Romanovich Luria (1902-1977), Russian psychologist. Luria was educated at Kazan University and established its Psychoanalytic Association. He then worked at the University of Moscow, developing methods that would lead to the lie-detector test. In the 1930s, he explored Central Asia, studying a wide range of psychological conditions. His work in army hospitals in World War II led to a new field called neuropsychology. Lurias work also forms the basis of the field of cognitive science.
