Adult Rosemary BEETLE - on Rosemary leaf.
Location: London garden, UK
Chrysolina americana
Pest of Rosemary, Lavender and Thyme plants. Recent introduction to UK from southern Europe. First recorded from the UK in 1963, when a number of individuals were found in a house in Cheshire. The next record was from the RHS Garden at Wisley in 1994, when a few beetles were found on potted rosemary plants. Since then, the species has been recorded on lavender plants and rosemary bushes throughout the south of England. The beetle overwinters as an adult and aestivates during the hottest part of the summer.

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we are introduced to SPH-3329, also known as the Adult Rosemary Beetle. This mischievous insect has quickly become a notorious pest of rosemary and lavender plants in the United Kingdom. With its shiny and colorful armor, it stands out among the herb garden crowd. This cheeky beetle made its grand entrance into UK gardens back in 1963 when a group of individuals were discovered causing mischief in a house in Cheshire. Since then, it has been spotted wreaking havoc on potted rosemary plants at RHS Garden at Wisley and spreading throughout southern England. But don't be fooled by its charming appearance! This little critter is no friend to our beloved herbs. It overwinters as an adult but takes a summer siesta during scorching temperatures - talk about living life on their own terms! With its European origins, SPH-3329 is truly an alien invader that has found itself quite at home within British borders. But fear not! Our wildlife warriors like Steve Hopkin are here to capture these fascinating creatures through their lens. So keep your eyes peeled for this shiny troublemaker next time you're tending to your garden. Who knows what other surprises may lurk beneath those fragrant leaves?
