An indefatigable war worker, Elizabeth Asquith
Elizabeth Charlotte Lucy Asquith (1897-1945), later Princess Bibesco, English writer, daughter of British Prime Minister Herbert Asquith and his second wife, Margot. She married Prince Antoine Bibesco, a Romanian diplomat in 1920. Pictured in The Tatler who describe her as an indefatigable worker in the cause of our wounded heroes. She organised and acted in a number of charity matinees throughout the war and in this case, she is pictured appearing with the actor Gerald du Maurier in a duologue called The Impertinence of the Creature, which was part of a matinee held at His Majestys Theatre in the presence of Queen Alexandra in aid of the British Red Cross Society.
