EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a chilling moment in history - the production of a napalm bomb at Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Commerce City, Colorado in 1957. The image showcases the grim reality of warfare and the devastating impact of this incendiary weapon. Napalm, a highly flammable liquid known for its ability to stick to skin and cause severe burns, was created by mixing gasoline with a gelling component. This deadly concoction was used as an effective tool during conflicts throughout the 20th century. The Rocky Mountain Arsenal, originally constructed during World War II, served as a hub for chemical weapons production until its closure in 1992. In this photograph taken by a Denver Post photographer on August 2nd, 1957, we witness workers meticulously constructing these lethal bombs on a production line. The image not only highlights the technological advancements made in warfare but also sheds light on the individuals involved - engineers and manufacturers who played integral roles in creating such destructive weaponry. Amidst their work lies an eerie reminder of human capability when it comes to both innovation and destruction. As we gaze upon this haunting snapshot from our past, let us reflect on the consequences of war and strive towards building a future where peace prevails over violence.
