Eagle Nebula
Eagle Nebula. Optical image of the Eagle Nebula (M16, NGC 6611). This is an emission nebula, a cloud of gas that glows as the hydrogen gas it contains is ionised by radiation from the hot young stars within it. The stars in the cluster are about 5. 5 million years old, young in stellar terms. They formed from the coalescence of the nebulas gas. M16 is around 7000 light years from Earth in the constellation Serpens Cauda. This image was produced by a CCD (charge-coupled device) at the Kitt Peak National Observatory, USA.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of the Eagle Nebula, also known as M16 or NGC 6611. The image captures an optical view of this emission nebula, a celestial cloud composed of gas that emits a radiant glow when its hydrogen content becomes ionized by the intense radiation emitted from young and hot stars within it. The star cluster nestled within the nebula is relatively youthful in astronomical terms, with an age of approximately 5.5 million years. These stars were born through the amalgamation of gas present in the nebula itself, exemplifying the remarkable process of stellar formation and evolution. Located around 7,000 light-years away from our planet Earth in the constellation Serpens Cauda, this awe-inspiring cosmic wonder was meticulously captured using a CCD (charge-coupled device) at Kitt Peak National Observatory in the United States. As you immerse yourself in this breathtaking mosaic photograph, it serves as a reminder of humanity's insatiable curiosity about space and our continuous quest to unravel its mysteries. From cosmology to astrophysics and everything in between, this image encapsulates not only scientific knowledge but also evokes a sense of wonderment at nature's grandeur. ***
