EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the year 1897, when these exquisite wood engravings of game birds were published. On the left side, we are introduced to two majestic species: the Black grouse and the Western capercaillie. The Black grouse, also known as Lyrurus tetrix or Tetrao tetrix, stands proudly with its dark plumage and striking red eyebrows. Beside it, a male and female Western capercaillie display their impressive feathers; the male showcasing vibrant hues while his partner exudes elegance. Turning our attention to the right side of this print, we encounter four more remarkable avian creatures. First is the Common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus), adorned with its colorful plumage that adds a touch of vibrancy to any landscape. Next is the California quail (Callipepla californica or Lophortyx californianus), radiating charm with its unique feather patterns and charismatic expression. Further along, we discover the Common quail (Coturnix coturnix or Coturnix communis), a small yet enchanting bird known for its intricate markings and delicate features. Lastly, there is Pallass sandgrouse (Syrrhaptes paradoxus) - an extraordinary creature boasting beautiful sandy tones that blend seamlessly into arid landscapes. These wood engravings serve as both historical artifacts and artistic masterpieces capturing nature's diversity in stunning detail. As
