This print showcases the renowned "Portraits of Members of the Jagiellonian Dynasty" painted by Lucas Cranach the Younger in 1565. The artwork, measuring an impressive 195 x 175 cm, is housed in the esteemed Czartoryski Museum in Cracow, Poland. The painting depicts a distinguished lineup of individuals who played significant roles within the Jagiellonian Dynasty. From left to right, we see Sigismund I, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1506 to 1548; Bona Sforza, his wife; their son Sigismund II Augustus, who succeeded his father as King and Grand Duke from 1548 to 1572. Also portrayed are Sigismund II's three wives: Elizabeth of Austria (1526-1545), Barbara Radziwill (1520-1551), and Catherine of Austria (1533-1572). Additionally, four daughters are depicted: Isabella Queen of Hungary (1519-1559); Catherine Queen of Sweden (1526-1583); Sophia Duchess of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1522-1575); and Anna Queen consort to Stephen Bathory and later ruler herself from 1576 to 1586. These portraits offer a glimpse into the powerful dynasty that shaped Polish history during this era. With intricate details captured by Cranach's brushstrokes, this masterpiece serves as a testament to both artistic skill and historical significance.
