Captain Blighs boat abandoned by the Bounty, 1789 (1886). William Bligh is best known for the mutiny that occurred against his command, aboard HMS Bounty. Cast adrift off Tahiti in a launch together with 18 loyal crew members, Bligh successfully undertook a voyage of over 3600 miles to Timor, Indonesia, with the loss of only one man, killed in an attack by natives of the island of Tofua during a stop to procure supplies. He later went on to serve as the fourth Governor of the colony of New South Wales, Australia.
